    Description

19C Super Rare Antique Bronze INDRA Statue Thailand Buddha.
There are some significant huge statues of Indra in Bangkok, as the God known as Phra In to Thais is highly revered and believe to rule over Tavatimsa heaven or Buddhist heaven where important deities reside prior to ultimate rebirth as there is no eternal heaven in Buddhist cosmology.  Indra is originally a Hindu deity, who was adopted in the Buddhist pantheon along with many other Hindu Gods and Goddesses but ascribed different qualities.
This statue is crouching and in Thai Royal regalia dress, holding on palm outward and the murals and with gold, red and white highlighting.  There is much hand-etching in the artistry, particularly on the ornate base with it's four raised paw like legs.  The statue is in wonderful condition for being about 200 years old.  From the Early Rattanakosin Period.  It is 10 1/2" tall and weighs 6.4 lbs or 2 Kgs, 903 garms.
