This auction is a 1877 Berrian MFG Co, NY Gold, Silver and Mail Scale with the patient papers. The scale was use to verify the accuracy of Gold and Silver that were used for deposit or trade. These scales were used by merchants, Banks and the United States Mint.
The scale measured 1 Dollar, 2 Dollar, 2 Dollar fifty cent, 3 Dollar, 5 Dollar, 10 Dollar , and 20 Dollar Gold Coins and 1 Dollar, 50 cent, 25 cent Silver.
This scale was also able to measure the weight on an envelope for United States Postage.
The is nickel plated.
