    Description

The Rambo movies of the early 1980s featured a large sawback bowie blade fighting knife in the hands of the main character, John J. Rambo. Such was the popularity of the Rambo knife that the famous Buck Knives soon introduced their own similar edged weapon known as the Buckmaster. The Buckmaster was used as the model for the new heavy duty M-9 bayonet adopted by the US Army in 1987. Phrobis III Limited Co. received the initial contract for 325,000 M-9 bayonets; they subcontracted actual production to Buck Knives, and the order was completed by 1989. Subsequent contracts were awarded to Lan-Cay in the early 1990s, and Ontario Knife Company in 1999. The variations of the classic M-9 bayonet have been of great interest to collectors for decades, leading Mack A. Pattarozzi to write an authoritative reference book on the subject in 2009. This "AMERICAN GLADIUS" US ARMY USMC MARINE GULF WAR GWOT M-9 BAYONET REFERENCE BOOK is in near mint, unread condition, with only some light scattered storage wear evident (most pictured). Otherwise, the book is in near mint shape, with no other damage. Most interestingly, it boasts an elegantly illustrated dust jacket over hardcovers, and sports 228 pages full of descriptive text, period pictures, and color photographs of M-9 bayonets produced by Phrobis III/Buck, Lan-Cay, and Ontario, with wonderful details on blade grinds, finishes, and markings, handle construction, scabbard variations, contract information, company histories, and patent drawings, great sections on the USMC Eickhorn XM9/2000 bayonet, the USMC Ontario OKC3s bayonet, and their respective sheaths, and a plethora of other invaluable information. A beautiful example of an "AMERICAN GLADIUS" US ARMY USMC MARINE GULF WAR GWOT M-9 BAYONET REFERENCE BOOK. Now celebrating over 20 years on eBay.
